ashiba vs Buildertrend

The full platform, or the sharper estimate?

Buildertrend does a great deal, and does much of it well. ashiba goes deeper on the handful of things a custom builder’s margin actually turns on — estimating, cost isolation, and a portal that sells the next job.
Where Buildertrend wins

A decade of features and a big platform.

  • +Deep scheduling — Gantt charts, dependencies, calendars built out over years
  • +Selections, warranties, and built-in invoicing and online payments
  • +A large integration catalog (accounting, takeoff, and more)
  • +A mature mobile app and a support org sized for big remodelers and production builders
Where ashiba wins

Where a custom builder actually makes money.

  • The estimating flywheelyou price in bands, actuals settle against them, and every closed line feeds a private cost database that surfaces as you bid the next job — pricing memory a per-job budget tool doesn’t keep
  • Structural cost isolationa sub or a client can never see cost data — it doesn’t exist in their view, enforced server-side, not a permission you can forget to toggle off
  • A portal that wins the next jobbranded, read-only, cost-free — and after handover it becomes the homeowner’s home manual (paint codes, equipment, seasonal notes), the surface referrals come from
  • AI-native, not just integrateda live public REST API and an MCP server — ashiba is the one here you can point an AI agent at to read and drive a job, with the cost invariant held at the tool boundary
  • Priced per active jobyou pay for jobs you’re running, not per seat — add every sub and the homeowner without a per-user tax

The honest take
For a custom builder whose margin is made or lost at estimate time, ashiba is built around the thing that decides it: a flywheel that turns every finished job into a sharper next bid, a portal that sells the next client and retains the last one, and an API/MCP surface no one else here exposes. Buildertrend is the more mature platform, and we’ll say so plainly — if you run many large jobs and want the whole suite (deep scheduling, selections, invoicing, a long integration list), it’s a real option. But bigger isn’t the same as sharper, and the features a small builder’s profit actually turns on are the ones ashiba goes deepest on.
See if the flywheel fits how you actually price.
